The Department of Waste Resources is creating an environment for our employees and communities that encourage sustainability. The County landfill system took in 3.7 million tons of waste last year, which is equivalent to burying nearly 2 million cars a year. Some of this waste can be diverted by properly recycling, which is why the Department of Waste Resources has implemented the “Riverside County Recycles” program. The Department further benefits the county’s communities by offering residential programs, such as Household Hazardous Waste collection events and beautification events such as community clean-ups, graffiti removal and illegal dumping retrieval. The Department also provides free educational composting workshops.
